A phased process to reintroduce a hand-reared infant Tonkean macaque to her natal group

Abstract Reintroduction of separated individuals into their social group is a major problem in the management captive non-human primates. Here we report case Tonkean macaques which female infant was abandoned by her mother after birth, then removed, hand-reared, and reintroduced weaning to original several stages. After initial phase separation, period habituation members followed during brought front enclosure daily for two months. We started phased reintroduction process that lasted year. Because biological member most attracted infant, began allowing interact. In next stages, introduced other one other, starting with females. Females acted as protectors against potential male aggression. At age year months, individual had fully integrated group. Two years later, she appeared behave like members. This shows can be used reintroduce an macaque containing adult females males.
